Middle of September: Developed a cough different then the norm. Didn't sound really good. I could tell she was concerned but she said she would see if it went away.
End of September: Cough is getting worrisome. She made an appointment to see the doctor. At this point she was still doing very well but had pains in chest. I could tell that she wasn't feeling good at this point.
Wednesday, October 1st: Went to the doctor. The doctor did chest x-ray's and the x-ray confirmed pnuemonia. The doctor was concerned that the pnuemonia could be hiding something so she scheduled a follow up exam next week.
Wednesday, October 8th: During the follow up appointment the doctor found that her supraclavicular lymph node (lymph node above her clavicle) was enlarged. It was not enlarged at all during her previous visit so it caused quite a bit of concern. They scheduled a CT scan on her chest and neck.
Wednesday, October 15th: CT scan. Mom was feeling pretty weak that day but still in good spirits.
Friday, October 17th: Results are in. Not good. Looks like lung cancer. The doctor aleady has her scheduled to see a pulmonologist first thing Monday morning. Mom was feeling pretty crappy this day.
Monday, October 20th: Pulmonologist appointment. He schedules a Bronchoscopy for Wednesday. Mom wasn't feeling good at all by this point. Took alot out of her even going to the appointment.
Wednesday, October 22nd: Bronchoscopy. Dr. Marshall was able to get a biopsy. He is 90% sure it is cancer.
Friday, October 24th: Pulmonologist appointment for results of the brochoscopy. It is indeed small cell carcinoma. An appointment for the Oncologist is scheduled for Tuesday. Mom isn't doing well at all at this point. I'm hoping during this appointment that they can get her scheduled with Dr. Madden today but it doesn't happen.
Tuesday, October 28th: Went to see Oncologist. Dr. Madden admits her into the hospital immediately.
First two weeks in the hospital: Definately touch and go. Round the clock breathing treatments, lots of different medication, first round of chemo and LOTS of scares.
